    FATAL NORWICH ACCIDENT NORWICH, Conn. (AP) – State police say one person was killed and two others were injured in a late night two-vehicle crash on Interstate 395 in Norwich. Police say both vehicles were driving north at about 11 p.m. Sunday. The rear vehicle made a lane change and struck the other vehicle. The rear vehicle crossed over two travel lanes and went through a metal rail into the center median before striking a cement bridge support.  More »

    POLICE REVIVE NORWICH WOMAN A Norwich woman is charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor after being found in New London passed out behind the wheel of an idling motor vehicle. Police say 26-year old Cassidy Moniz was found near 10 Spring Street around 5 Thursday afternoon. She had to be revived with Narcan, and was then taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Police say three children,  More »

    SCRAPYARD PROP UP FOR AUCTION The Norwich Harbor site of the former Shetucket Iron and Metal Scrapyard will go up for auction on July 29th. A bitter family dispute caused the business to close last year and resulted in several lawsuits. The winning bidder must provide a $25,000 deposit at the sale.     DEMOCRATS WANT BUDGET VOTE NEXT WEEK HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – At least one group of Connecticut legislators says it’s pushing forward with a possible state budget vote before the fiscal year ends June 30, even though there’s currently no agreement. Democratic leaders of the House of Representatives said Thursday their rank-and-file members prefer voting June 29 on a new two-year-budget rather than allowing Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to use his executive authority to temporarily run state government.  More »

    SUB PRODUCTION MAY INCREASE It is possible that the U.S. Navy could build up to 13 Virginia-Class attack submarines between 2019 and 2023. That would mean an increase to a three-subs-a-year build rate and more work for Electric Boat. A House Armed Services Subcommittee, of which Rep. Joe Courtney sits as the top Democrat, would like to authorize the Navy to make this aggressive change. The panel would like to see the advanced production as a part of the defense spending deliberations for the 2018 fiscal year.  More »
